Representatives from the Department of Health are in London this week on a recruitment drive, highlighting the benefits of a career within the Tasmanian health system as part of our long-term strategy to build a health workforce that meets the needs of Tasmanians.
The delegation, which includes representatives from Brand Tasmania, is attending the Healthcare Job Fair on 16 September, promoting the Department of Health as an employer of choice and Tasmania as an attractive destination to relocate to.
Secretary of the Department of Health, Kathrine Morgan-Wicks, said building a health workforce that meets Tasmanians’ needs now and into the future is vital for the delivery of effective and efficient healthcare services across the State.
“We are continuing to actively recruit both locally and nationally for additional healthcare workers, with international recruitment also forming part of our long-term Health Workforce 2040 strategy,’’ Ms Morgan-Wicks said.
“By having a presence at international Healthcare Job Fairs such as the one in London this week, we are increasing awareness of Tasmania as a destination among healthcare workers and highlighting the career opportunities available here. The Job Fairs bring together medical, nursing, allied health and other health care professionals seeking new job opportunities.
“We have found that health workers from the UK looking for a better work-life balance have found moving to Tasmania to be a fulfilling and rewarding experience.
“Our experiences with COVID-19 have also demonstrated the importance of having a flexible workforce that can respond to challenging environments in healthcare.
“Health systems all over the world are managing increased demands and that is why we are being proactive in our recruitment efforts to ensure we build a sustainable health workforce.
“Qualifications are directly transferrable to working within our health system and there are many similarities between how the Tasmanian health system works, and the National Health Service in the UK.
“We can also offer relocation assistance for health professionals wishing to move to Tasmania and pursue a career in our health system.”
The Department of Health is recruiting for a broad range of health professionals, including but not limited to medical practitioners across a number of specialties, nurses and midwives for a range of health settings, and a number of allied health occupations.
