The Northern Cancer Service has commenced a building project at the North West Cancer Centre, Burnie to fit out the second radiation therapy treatment room. The building project is planned to be completed by November 2021, with a new Linear Accelerator scheduled to be installed in January 2022.
The treatment room fit out has carefully been designed to create a sense of calm for patients. A custom-made Sky Ceiling, pictured below, will be installed as a prominent feature in the treatment area. The Sky Ceiling is a virtual window that fits into the ceiling. The backlit panels feature an outdoor scene, creating the illusion you are looking through the ceiling to the sky. Additional artworks will also be commissioned for the hallway entrance to the treatment room. These artworks will complement the spring theme of the sky ceiling.
The installation of a second state of the art treatment unit will increase the Radiation Therapy capacity of the Northern Cancer Service at Burnie. In turn, this will accommodate the increasing need in the community for cancer treatments.
