Dental and Oral Health Services - Children
The Children's Dental Service provides a wide range of dental services including relief of pain, restorative and preventative services, and maintenance of dental health.
Dental Therapists and Dentists provide dental care for children from birth up to 18 years of age.
Oral Health Services places great importance on prevention and we like to see you at your child's dental appointment. The sharing of knowledge and information assists us in providing the most effective dental care.
Your child's dental care may include:
- examination and treatment planning
- nutritional information and oral health counselling
- taking and interpreting of radiographs (x-rays)
- scaling and cleaning teeth to remove calculus
- applying flouride to teeth at risk of dental disease
- placing dental sealants
- filling teeth (deciduous and permanent)
- extracting deciduous teeth when necessary
- referring your child to a Dentist or Orthodontist for further assessment.

Service Eligibility
Oral Health Services will provide FREE dental examinations for children from birth up to 18 years of age.
(A dental examination may include: check-up, x-rays, dental health advice, referral)

Cost Information
Dental examinations for children from birth up to 18 years of age are free.
The dental treatment required following the examination will be free if your child is:
- Covered by a Health Care Card;
- Eligible for assistance under the Department of Education's Assistance Scheme;
- Attending kindergarten;
- Under school age (0-5).
For all other children a co-payment (subsidised fee) of $50 is charged for general dental treatment for a twelve month period. All children receiving dental treatment outside general treatment guidelines, including orthodontic extractions, will incur a co-payment.
