W.P. Holman Clinic (RHH)
The Department of Radiation Oncology (WP Holman Clinic) provides radiation therapy services to Southern Tasmania.
Radiation therapy is the treatment and management of cancer by radiation in order to cure or palliate symptoms. Radiation therapy may be used alone or with other treatment modalities such as surgery and chemotherapy. The ionizing radiation used in the treatment of cancer is photons (x-rays), gamma rays and electron beams.
Radiation oncology services are delivered by a multidisciplinary team of specialist medical practitioners, health professionals and scientists namely radiation oncologists, radiation therapists and medical physicists, along with nurses, other allied health professionals, engineers and support staff.
The department of radiation oncology is equipped with state of the art linear accelerators, an orthovoltage machine, a 3D treatment planning system and a dedicated radiation therapy CT scanner.
