What do we offer?

Social Workers are allied health professionals employed by the hospital to support you with a wide range of concerns that you may have. We understand that needing medical treatment can be a stressful time for you and your family.

Social Workers are available to talk to you about the impact of illness, treatment and rehabilitation upon you and your family and can see you at the following hospital outpatient clinics:

  • Cancer Services and Holman Clinic
  • Day Rehabilitation Unit and Community Rehabilitation Unit
  • Paediatric clinics
  • Antenatal clinics

We can assist with:

  • Community referrals for services to support you at home
  • Grief, loss and trauma counselling
  • Family and relationship concerns
  • Support for carers and families
  • Information and referrals about financial entitlements, housing, work and legal issues
  • Extra support for refugees, migrants and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in accessing health care
  • Accessing interpreter services

Community Health Social Workers are available in community health centres and provide home visiting where required. Community Health Social Workers work in multidisciplinary teams offering support, counselling, arranging health promotion events and support for the community following accidents and natural disasters.

Appointments to see a social worker can be made through your local community health centre.

There is no cost in accessing Social Work Services.
