Bruny Island Community Nursing provides comprehensive nursing care, assessment, referral and clinical management to clients of all ages in a clinic setting at the Bruny Island Community Health Centre and also at home.

Community Nursing Clinics

This service allows clients to book appointments for the treatment required at a suitable time to fit in
with their lifestyles.

Located at: Bruny Island Community Health Centre, 16 School Road, Alonnah

Referrals can be made by anyone:

  • Individuals
  • Family
  • GPs
  • Carers
  • Health care providers

The individual’s consent is required.

Referrals can be made by anyone, including yourself, your family, your doctor or a health professional.

Emergency Response

  • In case of emergency dial 000
  • Community Nurses provide on call support Tasmanian Ambulance Service for emergency response.

  • Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
  • Weekend appointments are available by arrangement.

Opening Times for Health Centre

  • 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday
  • 9:30 am - 1:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday

Normal office hours are between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm Monday to Friday.
After hours and when the office is unattended calls with be directed to an answering machine.

All contact to community health nurses is through reception.

What to expect from Community Nursing

On admission to Bruny Island Community Nursing, one of the Registered Nurses will conduct an initial assessment, and plan care with the client and/or family.

During this first visit, the nurse will also deliver care if required.

The assessment may take longer than subsequent visits and may be completed over a number of visits.


Clients will be discharges from Bruny Island Community Nursing when:

  • Their goals are met
  • They no longer require our services
  • They are admitted to hospital or residential care
  • They move out of the area

Please also be aware that services may be limited or withdrawn if either the client's or staff's safety in compromised.
