Hospital Visitor Restrictions

The safety of our patients, visitors and staff is very important and by restricting visitors we are taking measures that align with public health advice to prevent the potential spread and impact of COVID-19.

Unless you are seeking personal medical treatment or care, we ask that you do not visit our hospital, outpatient clinic or community centres if you:

  • are unwell with symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), such as a fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath, fever or loss of sense of taste or smell;
  • are awaiting a coronavirus (COVID-19) test result;
  • have been diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) and have not yet been given clearance from self-isolation;
  • have had known contact in the past 14 days with a person who was a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19);
  • arrived in Tasmania within the last 14 days;
  • live with any person that is unwell with fever or cold/flu symptoms Or
  • live with any person that has arrived in Tasmania within the last 14 days.

Visiting hours are restricted to 2pm – 6pm daily and limited to a maximum of one per patient at any one time

All visitors must:

  • Complete the visitor screening tool on arrival
  • Protect other by washing their hands, practicing good respiratory hygiene and maintaining social distancing

We understand that this can be a very challenging time for everyone and encourage the use of alternative methods of communication to stay connected with families/carers/social networks.

Compassionate exceptions may be negotiated at unit management level with consideration given on a case by case basis.

Please contact the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) or Associate NUM, of the unit/ward you are visiting to discuss an exemption.

The New Norfolk District Hospital provides 14 sub-acute beds, radiology, physiotherapy, podiatry, community health, mental health services, child health services and visiting consultants.

Opening Hours

Hospital services operate 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
Other services operate Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 5.00pm.

Child Health Centre operating hours:
Appointments available Monday and Tuesday morning, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday afternoons.
Open Sessions - Monday 1.30pm to 3.30pm and Friday 10.00am to 12.00pm.
