Specialist Palliative Care Memorial Service

The Specialist Palliative Care Service South warmly invites you and your family to attend our upcoming Memorial Service to remember those we have cared for between July and December 2019.

Due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic, we will be live-streaming the service.

Date:    Saturday, 28 November 2020

Venue:  Live Streamed

Time:    3:00pm

The Memorial Service will include a selection of readings, music, prayer, poetry, candle lighting in memory of loved ones and a period of silence for personal reflection.

Welcome to the Specialist Palliative Care Service online Memorial Service. This will be a live-streamed event via Microsoft Teams Live Event. The link to the event is below these instructions.

You may join via your computer – “watch on the web” or mobile app, OR on a mobile device (phone /tablet).

Watching via PC

When you click on the link your computer will give you two options: We suggest you click on the second option “watch on the web instead” and watch the service directly online.

Watching via a mobile device

You may need to download the app. It’s quite simple but do allow a couple of minutes for this.

If you already have Teams installed – your device (or PC) will open Teams automatically.

Join Anonymously

When Teams opens you may be asked to “sign in” OR “join anonymously” – We recommend that you join anonymously (unless you already have a Teams account) - click on the join anonymously link (under the sign-in link) and it will open the live-stream.

Questions / Comments / Chat

Please note that in the Teams live event you will not be able to turn on your camera or your microphone. You can however write questions or comments in the Q&A or Chat section to the right of the viewing screen.

The service begins at 3pm

The service will begin at 3pm but the event will be open for online attendees from 2:50pm. Information slides will be screened prior to the service commencing.

Testing your connection

It would be worth testing the link below ahead of time (even the day before) to see how it works and how to connect if you’re not familiar with using Teams.

The service will be recorded and available after the event. Please call 6166 2800 if you would like a copy to be sent to you on a USB Memory Stick / Flash Drive.

You may like to have a candle ready to light at the appropriate time during the service. Please make sure it is in a safe space.

You may also like to have someone with you for support. If you need some emotional support or assistance you could call:

Helpful Hints for viewing the service online

  1. You may like to select a quiet space where you can watch the service in peace and have time to remember your loved one.
  2. You may also like to have a candle ready (in a safe space) so that you can light a candle during the service.
  3. To join the service, please follow the link at the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) Palliative Care webpage – (you may like to do this well before the service is due to start to give yourself time to settle before it begins)
  4. The link will open a browser and ask you to either:
    1. Download the Microsoft Teams App,
    2. Continue on this browser
    3. Open the Teams App.

It’s probably easiest to just select the second option: “Continue on this browser” unless you’ve used Teams before.

(Nb. The service should be viewable on all types of devices – however, if you intend to use a smartphone / mobile device you may have to download the App)

  1. When Teams opens you will be asked to write your name and click the button ‘join’.
  2. You may be in a ‘waiting room’ until our technical assistance ‘admits’ you into the service. The Service will open a few minutes before the start time.
  3. Please note that you will not be able to turn your camera / microphone on during this event.

General Hints for Viewing:

  1. The event will be utilising Teams Live Event – this means that viewers are not able to participate with their cameras and microphones on.
  2. Limit other distractions – it will be easier to focus if you turn off computer notifications, closing other apps / programs and muting phones.
  3. The service will be recorded and stored with THS. Recordings will be made available via a USB drive for those that would like one after the event – we are sorry we are not able to make the recording available online.

In the event of a technical issue:

We’re working hard to minimise any technical issues on the day, but things can go wrong. If something happens please try to connect in through the link on the THS Palliative Care webpage again. Unfortunately, we may not be able to correct issues related to your connection.

Remember the service will be recorded, so we can send you a copy of the service after the event if you do experience any technical issues on the day.

It may be worth testing the link / Teams ahead of time to ensure you have the best experience possible.
