Medical Physicists contribute to the safe and accurate use of radiation treatment for prescribed medical procedures.
They do this by performing accurate measurements and calculations to maximize the expected benefit against the potential risk in the use of radiation. They also assess radiation doses and associated risks to patients and personnel.
Medical Physicists generally work behind the scene and are responsible for the commissioning and maintenance of radiation treatment equipment such as, linear accelerators and CT simulators as well as Treatment Planning Systems. All of which is essential for delivering safe, high quality radiation therapy for cancer treatment.
