Department of Health Governance

The Governance of the Department of Health, Tasmania consists of the Secretary who is also the Chair.  The Secretary is supported by the Office of the Secretary and the Clinical Advisory and Consumer Advisory groups.

Health Executive

Reporting to the Secretary are the Health Executive, consisting of:

• Chief Executive Hospitals North West*
• Chief Executive Hospitals South*
• Chief Financial Officer*
• Chief Information Officer*
• Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer*
• Chief People Officer*
• Deputy Secretary Community, Mental Health and Wellbeing*
• Deputy Secretary Hospitals and Primary Care (THS Executive Chair)*
• Deputy Secretary Infrastructure*
• Associate Secretary (Health Executive Deputy Chair)
• Chief Executive Ambulance Tasmania
• Chief Executive Public Health Services
• Chief Risk Officer
• Deputy Secretary Clinical Quality, Regulation and Accreditation
• Deputy Secretary Policy, Purchasing, Performance and Reform
• Director, Office of the Secretary

Executive Subcommittee

Reporting to the Health Executive are eight Executive Subcommittees consisting of:

• Audit and Strategic Risk
• Budget and Finance
• Clinical Executive
• Infrastructure Oversight
• People
• Statewide Health Environmental Sustainability Committee
• Strategic Information Management Technology
• Work Health and Safety

These subcommittees include clinician/consumer representation who drive improved and more timely decisions by the Executive and monitor delivery of key projects, outcomes and risks.

Local Management

Local Management report to both the Executive Subcommittees and the Health Executive.  Local Management Includes:

• Ambulance Tasmania Executive
• Clinical Planning Taskforces
• Launceston General Hospital Executive
• North West Executive
• Operational Executives
• Project Steering Committee
• Public Health Executive
• Royal Hobart Hospital Executive

Local business decisions are within approved budget, policy and strategic direction.
