The 4K Children's Ward Auxiliary has signed off on a project almost a decade in the making.
The Auxiliary raised more than $85,000 to renovate the courtyard off Wombat Ward, the paediatric unit at the LGH. The project was completed recently and donors joined the group for an official opening celebration.
Auxiliary president Margaret Kirkup hopes the new space will bring some joy to patients, families and staff.
"It's been a long time in the planning but the end result is amazing. We have turned an unused space into something welcoming," she said.
Clown Doctor Saurus Rex was on hand sharing a large roll of toilet paper among attendees urging everyone on the count of three to "tear off a sheet" rather than cut a ribbon for the opening.
Planning for the courtyard started in 2016. The project was a gift to mark the Auxiliary's 90th birthday.
