Nurses and midwives from across Tasmania were recognised for excellence in an awards ceremony in Hobart on Friday night.
The Tasmanian Public Sector Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards is an annual event to celebrate and acknowledge the skill, dedication and unwavering commitment of our nursing and midwifery workforce in Tasmania.
The Department of Health congratulates the six winners for their outstanding achievements.

- Rising Star Award – Nursing: Helen Oliver, Enrolled Nurse, North Eastern Soldiers Memorial Hospital
- Rising Star Award – Midwifery: Annelise Cross, Registered Midwife, Royal Hobart Hospital
- Innovation Award: Sandy Fahmi, Clinical Nurse Educator, Mersey Community Hospital
- Team of the Year: Pulse Youth Health, Hospitals – South
- Nurse of the Year: Annette Barrett, Assistant Director of Nursing, Primary Health North
- Midwife of the Year: Christina Galloway, Lactation Consultant, Royal Hobart Hospital
Friday night’s award ceremony followed the 2024 Tasmanian Nursing and Midwifery Symposium – a significant event that brings nurses and midwives together annually from across the State to celebrate innovation and research within the industry.
