Physiotherapy

Tasmanian Health Service - North West Region

The Physiotherapy Department provides a broad service covering both the North West and West Coast of Tasmania and King Island.

Our objective is to provide an integrated service for the community in which we work, with the emphasis being on hands-on-treatment, self management and health education. At our Burnie site, the Physiotherapy Department is co-located with the other therapies in the 'Day Clinics' area, which provides for good linkages between hospital and community based staff.

The Physiotherapy Department is modern and well equipped and includes a Rehabilitation Gym, wet-deck hydrotherapy pool and a Paediatric Physiotherapy area. Referrals to the department from both Specialist Consultants and General Practitioners produce a varied mix of clients who require acute, post-discharge or longer term management.

Physiotherapists also work from the Devonport Community and Health Services Centre with access to a Hydrotherapy pool located at Latrobe, Smithton District Hospital, West Coast (Queenstown) Hospital and the King Island Multi-Purpose Centre. Out reach visits are also conducted on a fortnightly basis by Paediatric Physiotherapists.
