Child Health Centres
Child Health and Parenting Service provides opportunities for new families to network with other services within the community
The Child Health & Parenting Service (CHaPS) provides free child health and development assessments for all children aged 0-5 years.
Assessments are recommended at the following ages: 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 6 months, 12 months, 2 years and Healthy Kids Checks at 4 years of age.
A medical check is recommended at 6 weeks.
These assessments are in the Personal Health Record (blue book) which is given to all parents at the birth of their child. These assessments are important to see how your child is growing and learning and if they are doing the things we expect for their age.
Growth & development in the first few years is fast and little concerns can quickly become bigger issues so parents are encouraged to ask the local Child & Family Health Nurse if they are at all concerned.
Child and Family Health Nurses offer parent information on many topics including: child health and development, practical parenting tips, nutrition, breastfeeding, sleep and settling, communication, play and safety, nutrition, oral health, post natal depression, fathering, balancing work and family life, play, injury prevention, SUDI and immunisation.
